I'm looking forward to the feedback on our next eye candy spread. I was fortunate enough to shoot Maximun Fighting Championship hottie Aron Lofton. I met him when he was in town for the MFC at the River Cree in September. What a charmer! Sweet, sexy and smart! I was a little surprised but he was articulate and very open about his personal life. I will put out a teaser once the mag is at the printers but for now, TRUST ME he is pure eye candy!!
Thanksgiving is this weekend and I will be spending the majority of it in my dungeon prepping for the next issue.
Remember to be thankful for everything you have! Life is too short for regrets.

The Scavenger Hunt...
What a great time!! We only had six teams register but the girls who came out seemed to enjoy the challenges at the various stops on the maps.
I wanted to give a special shout out to "Thelma and Lousie" who came ALL THE WAY from Ft. Saskatchewan to participate!! And the "Usana Mamas" were from Leduc!! These teams weren't familiar with the layout of Spruce Grove but participated anyway AND were good sports about the whole thing! They had the obvious disadvantage but you know what? They didn't complain! They played for fun - despite my whole "fight-to-the-death" speech at the starting point - and managed to find their way to the different businesses!
Sex in the Grove captured first place but they caught us off guard at the finish line because they were done in exactly 3 hours! We didn't even have time to get our actual finish line up! Good job ladies!!!
The Kinky Pinks finished a close second, despite some "roadbumps" with the Scavenger Hunt, the Vicious Vixens came in third and The PHAC-ers finished fifth.
We had some amazing prizes and giveaways again so THANK YOU to all of our sponsors!
Karissa at Dragon Lilies once again proved how AMAZING she is with her support by delivering a fabulous speech that almost made our pregnant sales superstar Jody cry! (Yes, Jody's pregnant!! YAYAY CONGRATS BABE!)
Anyway Karissa is freakin' awesome and EVERYONE should shop at Dragon Lilies!!
As for Robin at Romantic Notions, she was FABULOUS and handed out prizes, gave away tickle bags to EVERYONE who competed in the hunt (I didn't get one, tho, so I must take that up with her!!).
The best part of the day - and there were lots of hi-lights - was receiving a plaque from Spruce Grove mayor Stuart Houston. I think he has some groupies now, because we've received emails and facebook messages about our "smokin' hot" mayor. :]
Nice... bunch of horny women, I tell you!!! His wife, Debra, is beautiful and sweet and seems to like our magazine!! YAY!
I love it when we don't offend people! Doesn't happen very often so I'll take it when I can get it!!
In all of my speeches, I never remembered to thank Big Daddy. So, Big Daddy, if you read my blog, THANK YOU for all of your support, patience and financial contributions to MOM Magazine. I love you!!!!
Now, I must focus on making this next year bigger and better for all of us at MOM Magazine and for the readers who continue to pick us up!! THANK YOU!

For once, I was speechless...
Last night, Daina, Jody and I went to the Canadian Women in Communications Fall mixer at the Sutton Place Hotel in Edmonton.
The goddess of publishing, Ruth Kelly of Venture Publishing, had been honoured as the 2008 CWC Woman of the Year and was to address the crowd. Anytime Ruth speaks, I listen. It's WEIRD because I have been known to listen to NO ONE but Ruth is Ruth so when I heard that she would be at the event, I grabbed the girls and we went to the mixer.
It was the first time I've seen Ruth since she ripped apart our magazine. That was back in April and if anyone has noticed, our magazine has gone through a MAJOR overhaul. Anyway, I humbly approached her with our latest issue of the magazine, bowed my head and handed it to her.
She was thrilled to see me - of course, I mean it IS ME, for gawdsake!! - and flipped through the magazine. She noticed the difference immediatly and told us that she thought it was much better than the last issues she had seen. She seemed almost impressed!!
When she got up to give her speech, she told the crowd that when she usually speaks at events she knows most people, if not everyone in the crowd but that when she accepted her award for the CWC Woman of the Year last March, she knew no one - or rather, no one knew her.
Ruth is the first woman from western Canada to win the award and the first magazine publisher to win the award. It is a BIG DEAL!
She went on to tell us about a reporter who had asked her years ago if she had risked anything to do what she does. She literally laughed out loud because, she said, every entrepreneur risks something whether it's financial or emotional, the risk of failure or, in her case she says, public humiliation.
She said the biggest risk in life is not following your passion in life and doing what you believe in.
When she said that, she looked right at me, smiled and winked.
She went on with her speech but I stood there, stunned and unable to focus on anything else but that moment. I took a mental picture of that moment and have replayed it over and over since it happened. It's almost like she believes in me and what I am doing with the magazine. And she knows how much I have risked and what I stand to lose should this magazine fail.
But that moment gave me more confidence in myself and this magazine, and meant more to me that she will ever realize.
Life is made of moments like that. I have snapshots of moments that define my life - my final visit with my grandma before she died, getting the phone call that I got the job as a sportswriter at the Kelowna Daily Courier when I was 21, seeing Ron for the first time and somehow knowing he would change my life - and I keep these snapshots close because every moment compounds and shapes the person I become.
I never got to say goodbye to Ruth last night, she must have slipped out without me knowing.
So Ruth, if you read my blawg, thank you for that moment.
Daina, Jody and I enjoyed the rest of the evening especially because WE ALL WON door prizes!!! Daina - poor, unlucky Daina - won a gift certificate for her and a friend to Pure Elemnts Day Spa in Sherwood Park, I won a FANTASTIC purse and Jody won a cell phone!!!
It was a GREAT night!

Scavenger Hunt will only be held in Spruce Grove/Stony Plain
It sucks that we have to cancel the Hunt in Sherwood Park, St Albert and Leduc but we haven't had any teams register and we didn't want to wait until the last minute to cancel it.
On the BRIGHT SIDE - and there is ALWAYS a brighht side!! - we will be opening up the Finish Line sponsored by Romantic Notions to anyone who wants to come and rock out with us!

Tim McLean's Mom
I just watched a video of Tim McLean's mom, Carol deDelley, speaking out for the first time.
I am amazed at her strength. Just watching her speak - only a month after his gruesome murder on a Greyhound Bus - was enough to bring back all of the empathy and sadness I initially felt when I heard about this tragedy.
She was composed, strong and articulate during her interview with the Winnipeg Free Press. She has kind, dark brown eyes and a maternal warmth that makes her the kind of woman you want to hug when you see her.
She spoke of hearing of the murder on the news all day Thursday and thinking, "Oh my God, that's horrible. What state did that happen in? Because it just doesn't happen here.
"And then my thoughts were immediatly to the family." She is a cook in a seniors manor and that night Carol and the seniors watched the news together, commenting on how horrible the murder was. When she returned home that night, her ex-husband called and asked if she had seen the news. "Well, ya, I've heard," she replied.
"It was Tim."
She shook her head and said, "Don't say that. Don't say that."
"No, Carol, the RCMP phoned and they're on their way over here."
"Empathy - you're at an arm's length to feel sorry for a family's loss - and you can feel that sorrow. But not like this. This is like a kick in the gut. This is heart-wrenching. I feel like I've got a whole here now," she says, touching her heart.
She has had to watch her parents suffer throughout this tragedy and knows that her parents wish they could do something to ease her pain.
"My dad wants to reach into my heart and take away the pain.
"And he can't."
Not once during this interview did she break down. I lost track of the amount of times I cried, wishing for just one minute I could - like her dad - take away the pain.
Her strength amazes me. Seeing her speak about Tim and the events of his death made me want to reach out to this mom even more.
Carol had to read about all of the things that happened to Tim on that bus. She knew all of the gory details because they were played out in the media over and over again. She knew all of that even before she knew it was her son that it had happened to.
I encourage you to watch the video and see for yourself how courageous this mom is.
She will forever be in our hearts and prayers.
